Homecomings at HBCU’s bring alumni and friends in from far and wide and Albany State is no different. This was homecoming for the Golden Rams and they ended the celebration by defeating Lane College 33-13.

The Golden Rams of Albany State University got the job done on Homecoming, knocking off the Lane College Dragons 33-13 on Saturday afternoon. The victory sets Albany State’s overall mark at 4-2, 3-0 in SIAC play.
Dionte Bonneau threw for 196 yards, completing 11-of-14 passes, two touchdowns and rushing yards (11). McKinley Hambersham rushed for 90 yards and Rashad Jordanrecorded a team-high 134 reception yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Stephan Pierre paced the Golden Rams with five tackles.
Lane (3-3, 0-3 SIAC) was led offensively by quarterback Michael Huntley, leading the Dragons in passing yards (114). Huntley completed 12-of-22 passes. Kingston Davis the games’ leading receiver finished with four receptions and 20 yards. Jeffery Johnson, Brayce McKinzie and DeMichael McQue led Lane with five tackles each respectively.
Albany State’s Rashad Jordan put the Golden Rams on the scoreboard first at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter, booting a 66-yard pass from Dionte Bonneau for the 7-0 lead. Lane answered with adding its first touchdown of the contest at the 4:48 mark, when Michael Huntley connected with Ahmad Isaac on a 24-yard pass. Albany State then added another touchdown when Hambersham ran the ball for 38-yards to find his way in the end zone for the Golden Rams, bringing the score to 14-7..
Keeping the same momentum in the second quarter, Bonneau connected with Rashad Jordan on a 40-yard pass bringing the score to 21-7. The Golden Rams then collected a safety to take a 23-7 advantage. With 0:00 seconds left Gabriel Ballinas secured a 42-yard field goal to close out the first half scoring for ASU. At the half, the Golden Rams secured in the lead, 26-7.
In the third quarter, Lane added a touchdown on a three-yard pass at the 4:01 mark to cut ASU’s lead 26-13. The Golden Rams rounded out the competition by adding their final touchdown of the game when Hambersham ran the ball for 17-yards in the end zone at the 13:57 mark, bringing the score to 33-13.
ASU finished the competition with 266 total offensive yards and were 4 of 11 on third down conversions. ASU went 2 of 2 of its red-zone scoring chances and had a total of 117 total rushing yards and secured two rushing touchdowns.
The Golden Rams will host the Tigers of Benedict College on Saturday, October 19. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
